Abstract

Drilling by the submersible drilling hammer is one of the progressive technologies in drilling of boreholes and it is currently being widely applied method for the drilling works. Use of the submersible hammers disposed in the borehole - drilling directly above the drilling tool - entails number of advantages. The most important is the energy loss prevention. Submersible drilling hammers are gradually and successfully replacing the surface hammers, which have been widely used for many years in Slovakia and in the rest of the world. One important area of application is boreholes drilling in quarries. Besides the quarry, where submersible drilling hammers are widely used in its classical variant, they are also deployed in the construction industry: in foundation engineering, engineering geology, hydrogeology and other sectors that are tied to the implementation of drilling. Here are often applied some unconventional methods of submersible drilling. Other methods of drilling are drilling with external hammers, impact drilling, rolling drilling, rotary-percussive drilling and other special drilling methods which will be covered in this paper as well.
