CULTIVATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION BY THE MONTESSORI METHOD
Abstract
Development of environmental education becomes a topical issue of educational policy and secondary school in Bulgaria. The efforts are mainly focused on integrating and promoting environmentally friendly activities for children in different age groups. The paper explores new approaches to stimulate motivation and extension of activities related to sustainable development and environmental protection; new methodologies with a similar focus are interpreted, and specific models for implementation are proposed. The paper offers a general description of Maria Montessori's methodology in the context of environmental education. The author studies the possibilities of geography training for the implementation of environmental education among students. It is considered that using certain notions of Montessori methodology will not only enrich the practice but will increase substantially the engagement and responsibility of every child. The current paper emphasizes the following important aspects: ? How children connect with nature ? The positive impact of the Montessori teaching method on the child in order to develop respect and caring attitude for the environment ? To offer new methods and activities in training process with children in order to achieve environmental protection ? To create interactive outdoor spaces for children ? To increase the civic engagement of children and improve their ecological literacy
