Abstract

We studied polyimide and lavsan films after exposure to varying doses of electron irradiation, mechanical loading, and temperature. It was found that at the first stage of mechanical loading, up to 1 MPa. A similar sharp increase in the relative elongation of the films by 3% was observed. This is due to the rotation of globules and the straightening of macromolecular chains in the material along the direction of the applied load. The dependence of the absorption coefficient on the wavelength per unit path length is the same for the films of different thicknesses and irradiated with different electron doses. This indicates that their production mechanisms are identical, and their most informative wavelength transmission ranges are 320-500 nm for lavsan films and 450-750 nm for polyimide films. A significant feature of the optical properties of these polymer films is that their lower transmission limit depends on their thickness and radiation dose. A decrease in the optical density of the films was detected with increasing irradiation dose. This indicates restructuring processes caused by the displacement or misorientation of optical centers, as well as intensified degradation of polymer chains and gas formation within the polymer volume under the influence of fast electrons.
