Abstract

One of the main obstacles in the agribusiness sector is the lack of interest in the field. Indeed, given the laborious working conditions, it has become increasingly challenging to attract the interest of workers into agriculture. In spite of the fact that the agribusiness sector offers products that meet the basic needs of the population, and therefore plays a pivotal socio-economic role in many regions around the world, the sector faces difficult working conditions, which is an extremely important socio-economic characteristic of this sector is that an individual it combines the functions of three characters: the owner, the manager and the worker, which brings unity between the property and the leadership. In fact, given the importance of agribusiness in the developing economic structures of Kosovo, a study that looks into the motivation of employees is both timely, and necessary. The growth and development of any organization is closely linked to and conditioned by the development of Human Resources (hereafter: HR). In the case of modern agribusinesses, the challenge of HR is to properly motivate and to adequately meet the conditions of skilled employees, and motivate them. Given that HR has an important role in agribusiness, this research will measure the level of employees? motivation in Kosovo and analyze the job characteristics model of Hackman & Oldham (1976) and the impact of job characteristics on the motivation of employees. This model is particularly fruitful, because it facilitates determining the different degrees of impact the five respective factors may have on employee motivation in Kosovo in general, and specifically, it enables improving upon the situation in Kosovo. The study sampled 248 agribusinesses (from a total of 651). This selection was based on the sample size determination of the Slovin?s formula (1960). Subsequently, data was collected and analyzed in quantitative terms by means of the SPSS software. The research results concluded that agribusiness workers have a moderate level of internal motivation in Kosovo. Likewise, based on Pearson?s coefficient and multiple linear regression, the model of job characteristics influences employee internal motivation to a significant extent.
