Abstract

In this paper we make a briefly presented the problems related to geomagnetic field metrology within the Surlari Observatory from Romania, in accordance with the international standards of planetary network of geomagnetic observatories INTERMAGNET and International Association of Geomagnetism and Aeronomy (IAGA), followed by an overview of the types of geomagnetic variations. We have identified and selected few time periods of intensive geomagnetic activities, from the year 2017 and based on the data files recorded at the Surlari Observatory, using various methodologies and algorithms, we have made processing data and graphic examples of these. We identified the periods with geomagnetic perturbations, based on the data files transmitted on-line at INTERMAGNET and having a 1-minute sampling rate. The identification of periods with major perturbations has also been verified by correlation with other planetary observatories. Then, we analyzed the data files from the server of observatory, where we have data recorded at 2 Hz. Using these data files with a big resolution (2 samples / second) we were able to study geomagnetic phenomena associated with major perturbations. The processing of these data was accomplished in several stages. A preliminary processing step was to extract the linear trend, in which we removed all regular oscillations that have high periods and normalize the values recorded in a relatively low amplitude range cantered around zero. This normalization of values allowed us to make the most effective use of subsequent analyses. We calculated the gradient on each triaxial component of the recorded geomagnetic field. Based on this, we have clearly highlighted the start of a geomagnetic storm and even the moderate perturbations of the field. By spectral analysis we calculated the periodicities, morphology and amplitude of the pulsations associated with magnetic perturbations. Also, through the wavelet analysis we identified the time of occurrence of these phenomena.
