HIKING AND SPORTS MOBILE APPLICATIONS TESTING FOR THEIR USE IN GEOTOURISM
Abstract
The paper deals with actual testing of available hiking and sports mobile applications for their use in the terrain. Testing was carried out in individual steps, starting with the analysis of existing hiking and sports mobile applications and the selection of suitable mobile applications for the field research. The contribution also includes the overview of the most downloaded iOS and Android free hiking and sports mobile applications in category Health and Fitness in Slovakia. Hiking and sports mobile applications which were selected to the field survey and following testing are described in detail. The monitored parameters were: air temperature, probability of precipitation, wind force, humidity, atmospheric pressure, visibility, UV index, categorization of the application, length and duration of the route, average and maximum speed, hydration, number of steps, calories, difficulty of the route, minimum and maximum altitude, total elevation, total decline and route mapping. The survey was carried out in the monumental karst gorge in eastern Slovakia. The obtained data were subjected to statistical and substantive analysis. The part of the testing was also the functionality of mobile applications in the terrain. By data objectivization, the descending order of available parameters measured by mobile applications was created. Consequently, by considering their existence in particular sports and hiking mobile applications, a list of recommended mobile applications used in geotourism was created.
