Abstract

Indoor environmental quality in the residential sector significantly influences the occupantsпїЅ wellbeing, having consequences on health and productivity. Integration of strategies of solar energy use, in passive system in the building architecture, is intended to reduce not only the energy consumption for heating, from non-renewable sources, but also to provide a healthy and comfortable environment for occupants. This paper presents the results of a study that aimed to assess the quality of the indoor environment in a residential building in operation, characterized by a high energy performance, designed according to specific principles of passive solar house design. For this purpose it has developed a program for monitoring the temporal and spatial variability of parameters of thermal and visual comfort, and air quality (CO2 concentration) and energy consumption. The data processing, referring to levels of different parameters in different periods of the year and the comparison with recommended values of European standards have allowed the assessing of extent to which the comfort and indoor air quality criteria, specific for dwellings, are met. The conclusions resulting from this objective analysis, supplemented with information regarding the occupantsпїЅ perception, will be taken into account in developing a model for sustainable building, able to provide a healthy and comfortable environment with minimum energy consumption.
