AIR POLLUTION IN URBAN AREAS AND THE IMPACT ON THE POPULATION OF ALBA IULIA
Abstract
Air pollution in this century is a great challenge, mainly due to the aggressiveness ofpollutants on human health, but also due to their impact on all components of theenvironment, namely: air, water, soil and biodiversity. The development, adaptation andapplication of solutions to reduce air pollution is possible only through a research activity- intense innovation and supported by all those with decision-making power and financialresources. Air pollution and its impact on human health, ecosystems and biodiversitymust be further reduced, and the long-term goal is not to exceed critical quantities andlevels. To this end, efforts need to be stepped up to fully comply with EU air qualitylegislation. The factors of urban pollution are directly related to the territorial size of the urban center,as well as to the infrastructure, population density, industrial development and thelocation of the company, through their manufacturing process. The main causes ofpollution in the urban center are: the explosive growth of the population together with themassive migration from rural to urban areas, industrialization in areas where pollutionreaches its maximum level. In the content of the article, the results of the measured anddetermined values, as the case may be, will be presented in parallel on the one hand at theautomatic station in Alba Iulia, as well as those measured and determined using specificfine particle measurement equipment PM10 and PM2.5. The measured values will beanalyzed and compared, formulating some conclusions and concrete directions to reducetheir level.
