RURAL TOURISM - A SUPPORT FOR THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF MOUNTAIN RURAL AREAS
Abstract
Practicing rural tourism in mountain areas represents an essential element in their sustainable development, offering economic, social and environmental opportunities that contribute to the revitalization of these regions, the reduction of economic gaps and the value of natural and cultural heritage. This study aims to identify the impact that the development and promotion of rural tourism has on rural mountain communities. The article makes an innovative contribution to understanding how responsible tourism activities influence the socio-economic and ecological balance of mountain regions in Romania. The research focuses on the correlation between the sustainable valorization of natural landscapes, the responsible use of environmental resources and the dynamics of rural development. The novelty of the research lies in the application of a mixed methodology, using both quantitative and qualitative research methods, resulting in a complete analysis, which allows the development of sustainable strategies. Promoting rural tourism in mountain areas has significant implications for the sustainable development of rural mountain areas, and its success depends on responsible planning, community involvement and the implementation of sustainable practices. By adopting a balanced approach, rural tourism can become an essential factor of resilience and long-term prosperity for mountain regions, becoming not only an economic vector, but also a functional strategy for reducing the vulnerability of mountain communities to the risks of depopulation and ecological decline.
