Abstract

This paper presents a position of geography and geosciences in educational system of primary school teachers in Croatia. There are only a few information about the extent of geography and geosciences as a part of curriculum for primary school teachers on Faculties of Education in Croatia. On six Universities in ten different cities primary school teachers can study for their degrees. We compared all syllabuses and curricula on these Faculties regarding to courses that are lecturing geography and geosciences. From this comparison we can conclude that number of courses is different, number of mandatory and elective courses is different, and fieldwork as obligatory course is only represented in program of integrated undergraduate and graduate teacher studies on Faculty of Education in Osijek. Main topics and themes, presented in paper, in same courses vary even when they are using the same obligatory literature. As geography is one of the main subjects in primary schools and one of the fast developing nature sciences, authors are not satisfied with its content and amount of lecturing hours. In this paper authors stress out the main problems in course contents in geosciences of primary school teacher educational system in Croatia with several proposals for curriculum development.
