APPLICATION OF A METHODOLOGY FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF POTENTIAL AQUIFERS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE
Abstract
In Bulgaria, a promising method for creating underground gas storage is the use of aquifers. The main prerequisites are: the presence of reservoir systems with a favorable combination of permeable and shielding rocks; hydrogeological and thermobaric conditions marking the chemistry and dynamics of water, the phase state and the quantities of stored gas; the structural-tectonic conditions defining the type of the perspective traps and their architecture; Neo-Seismotectonic activity, determining the degree of seismic risk of a chosen termitary, etc. In the central part of Northern Bulgaria, according to existing data and considering the prerequisites, a number of aquifers were considered to be potentially suitable for the construction of UGS. Preliminary assessments of their prospects as possible accumulations for the storage of natural gas were concluded.
