ROLE AND RELEVANCE OF AN ELECTRO CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE OPERATION OF A POWERED ROOF SUPPORT

Abstract

One of the most significant elements of every machine operation is its control system. Proper design, construction and operation of the control system is the key factor for correct and efficient operation of a machine. This particularly applies to mining machinery operating in hazardous environments and exposed to loads which cannot be fully predicted. Such machines must be therefore characterized by high reliability, durability, readiness and safety. In order to fulfil all these requirements, a machine must be equipped with durable and stable control systems. Rapid development of electronics caused that electronic components are now commonly applied in such systems. The article focuses on the analysis of electro control systems used in powered roof supports designed to work in underground mines. These roof supports must ensure the safety of the staff during exploitation of minerals. The operation of the machines is based on a hydraulic power stored in a pressurized liquid controlled by electric elements and devices. The aim of application of the control system in a roof support is to increase its efficiency and efficacy, and to improve safety of work. The speed and reliability of controls (electric) affect the efficient use of a hydraulic system (executive component of the system). Model applications of electrohydraulic control systems and the test results presented in the article confirm that they are much more effective when compared to the traditional systems. Moreover, they offer greater range of adaptation to changing conditions of operation and are safer.
