RECLAMATION OF MINED OUT OPEN PITS USING COMBUSTION BYPRODUCTS
Abstract
The paper describes using wastes from power industry for filling the open pits. It presents the types of post-mining open pits which require filling and reclamation. The methods of using combustion by-products which come from commercial power stations and thermal-electric power stations are presented in the paper. The types of combustion byproducts, their origin, amount and features are discussed. The significant differences between parameters of ashes from brown coal and hard coal are underlined. The properties of products (bulk material possible to reuse) obtained in process of sulfur removal from combustion gases, especially from the installations for dry de-sulfurization and fluidized bed boilers, were also presented. The results of research and continuous monitoring of using combustion by-products in technical and biological reclamation were also described. The methods of the filling the pits with reference to various ash removal and de-slagging technologies in power facilities were discussed. A wide range of possibilities and usefulness of combustion by-products in filling the pits and reclamation as well as the safety of using them was shown.
