Abstract

Economic gentrification means bringing more material value to a specific area by increasing its attractiveness and upgrading it. In the case of small deposits with permanently discontinued exploitation (only historical significance) and scarce resources, it is more socially and economically efficient to withdraw the deposits from the balance of mineral resources and enable changes in the management of the area. As a result, it is more possible to introduce different post mining deposit developments, such as using them for their geological, landscape or historical values and qualities. In the Cracow area, there is a number of examples of successful and interesting development of such deposits (in the city of Cracow exist several inactive, but differently developed mine workings). There are reserves, city parks, training and educational sites, technological parks and many more. Despite increasing interest in the gentrification process, a large number of quarries are still undeveloped. Based on the Mi?kinia porphyry deposit and ZakrzпїЅwek lime deposit, two cases can be presented to showcase the opportunities of bringing new, attractive directions when it comes to the use and development of post-mining areas. The deletion from the resource balance allows to create a technological park and to exhibit the geological, environmental and landscape value as well as to promote the mining tradition of the area.
