GEOTECHNICAL STUDIES ON THE UNDERGROUND INFRASTRUCTURE IN SLANIC SALT MINE
Abstract
Our research has focused on ensuring the stability of the underground works with advanced techniques of non-invasive investigation and the development of an analysis of the underground infrastructure using the Finite Element Method FEM. The article is structured in three principal parts and a study to ensure the stability of the excavation was developed. The first part is about the determination of the optimal location for a possible underground laboratory based on the geological, the geotechnical and the geomechanical characterization of the site, taking into account the technical requirements as well. The second part of this paper is about the direct testing methods in the laboratory which were compared with results obtained with the geotechnical software based on the Hoek-Brown failure criterion used for simulate the behavior of the rock mass from Slanic Prahova Mine. In the third part, the prediction of the geomechanical behavior of the rock mass and the preliminary design of the underground workings, including the assessment and the check of the stability of underground structure, was performed by using the FEM for some of the underground works.
