Abstract

This paper presents a possible alternative solution to cold a retail center located in Brasov, Romaine. Absorption machines using thermal energy are excellent alternatives to mechanical refrigeration. The proposed solution uses a single stage absorption systems working with LiBr-water. This solution uses the water as a refrigerant which has a null direct impact on the environment (ODP=0 and GWP=1).The proposed scheme is the result of experimental research conducted by a team from the Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer and Thermal Equipment Department. The tests were performed on an existing plant in the Thermodynamics Laboratory of the Technical University of Civil Engineering Bucharest. The authors present the performance of classical power plant and vs. new solution for cooling in the retail center.Energy savings brought by the proposed solution is given by the hot water to drive the absorption refrigeration systems with solar collectors in most of the time with thermal boiler at peak times. This cooling solution with application to commercial spaces completely new to Romania is supported by overlapping solar heatstroke cold requirement of the complex. The authors present an economic analysis on energy savings and payback time, as well as a TEWI coefficient on the environment.
