STUDY ON THE EXPANSION OF A NEW INVASIVE COCCINELLIDAE, HARMONIA AXYRIDIS (PALL.)(COLEOPTERA: COCCINELLIDAE) IN WESTERN PART OF ROMANIA
Abstract
Multicolored asian ladybird Harmonia axyridis Pall. is a well-known aphid predatory species, of Asian origin. The species is classified taxonomically, at present, in the tribe Coccinellini family Coccinellidae. The species is considerate bivoltine, but may submit up to 5 generations/ year. The main role of the species is its use in biological control. A negative impact on potential benefits that accompany this coccinellid would be predation insects native to the same family. Current status of invasive species is to expansion in the western part of Romania. Thus, the aim of this paper is to highlight the distribution of longitudinal and altitude of the species Harmonia axyridis in the western part of Romania, the sum of all data (number of samples) collected during the period 2015- 2016. Collections of material were made using standard entomological nets and entomological umbrella. Investigation area comprises 10 localities in Timi? County located at different altitudes and habitats investigated are the main arbolicolous and the grassy. Most specimens have been collected in Timi?oara (n = 37) пїЅ represents 22.42 % of the total insects collected. From the data reviewed in this study it can be seen that the species prefers landscapes (Habitat) more urbanized and anthropic and less on the woodland and other natural elements. In addition to the preference for urban habitats are arboreal, and was recorded in field crops, such as wheat, corn and alfalfa. Also the preferred host plant by Harmonia axyridis пїЅ in all three stages of the development of species, it is Vitis vinifera. In Europe the maximum rate of the spread of the specie Harmonia axyridis is 200 km/year. In the western part of Romania, if we look at the data provided and taking into account the observations made concerning the distribution of the species, we conclude that the species is already present throughout the Timi? County.
