Abstract

One of the most pressing environmental problems is the generation of production and consumption waste, while the bulk of the waste is not involved in secondary economic turnover, but is placed in landfills, which pose a serious environmental hazard to the environment and public health. The authors of the article substantiate the need to use modern information technologies for a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the composition of emissions, a comprehensive assessment of the ecological state near pollution sources, a study of cause and effect relationships in the system ?environment-health?, health risk assessment with the aim of further substantiating priority management decisions to ensure environmental safety of the population. The main method used to assess the negative impact of municipal solid waste landfill on the health of the population living in the zone of its influence is the use of the concept of risk assessment and analysis. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of information technologies used in assessing the risk to public health from emissions of solid municipal waste landfills. The authors consider the examples of the use of software products at various stages of assessing public health risk from emissions of Kursk municipal solid waste landfill. To take into account the specific uncertainties that are caused by the features of the functioning of solid municipal waste landfills as a source of risk, the authors have developed an electronic database of the morphological composition and objects of MSW disposal. The developed database will make it possible to level out the uncertainties arising in assessing the risk to public health from emissions of solid municipal waste landfills and, accordingly, increase the objectivity of the obtained risk assessment results.
