THE USE OF COMPLEX-FORMING REAGENTS FOR THE FLOTATION OF TI-BASED MINERALS
Abstract
AkzoNobel?s (now Nouryon) reagents from the class of alkylhydroxamic acids were assessed as collectors to float the titanium-based perovskite minerals. Hydroxamic acids can form strong complex compounds of various structures with transiting metals, which leads to their widespread use not only in analytical chemistry, but also in mineral processing. In the series of reagents under study, in addition to the traditional octyl-hydroxamic acid, we considered hydroxamic acids obtained from natural raw materials and differing in the length and saturation of the hydrocarbon radical, which made it possible to determine the optimal structure of the collector's hydrophobic chain. Laboratory flotation experiments were performed on a perovskite sample with the 11.78% content of TiO2. The pH range of the effective perovskite flotation was determined; the concentration dependences of the flotation activity of the reagents studied were constructed. From the obtained results, it follows that reagents with a high hydrocarbon radical, obtained on the basis of acids of coconut and tall oils, do not show the required selectivity and actively float both perovskite and rock-forming minerals. The most efficient reagent is octyl-hydroxamic acid, the use of which ensures the production of the perovskite concentrate with the TiO2 content of ~ 49-50%.
