THE POSSIBILITY OF SCHEELITE PROCESSING BY FLOTATION FROM OCHTINA
Abstract
This study is focused on the flotation of scheelite (CaWO4) ore with a sample from OchtinпїЅ, Slovakia. Scheelite as an important tungsten - bearing mineral is often nowadays treated mainly by froth flotation. Such a treatment of scheelite mineral includes crushing, grinding and sorting, followed by gravity separation which is a very significant process for obtaining marketable grade mineral concentrates. A significant step is flotation processing which is based on the difference in chemical and physical properties of different mineral surfaces intended for separation. This is essentially a difference in surface tension of the surface of the materials. Simply put some of the materials are less wettable than others. The separation of minerals by flotation has been proven effective when particles to be floated can be made selectively hydrophobic. The hydrophobicity is induced by the adsorption of collectors except in a few cases of collectorless flotation of hydrophobic minerals or complex sulfide ores. Hydrophobization of the scheelite surface was achieved using benzohydroxamic acid (BHA) as a collector. Lead nitrate was used to improve the efficiency of the adsorption of the collector on scheelite surface.
