Abstract

This work is devoted to the investigation of the possibility of use of Ru-containing catalysts including bimetallic (Ru-Fe) magnetically separable one on the basis of polymeric matrix of hypercrosslinked polystyrene in hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) to gamma-valerolactone (GVL), which is a semi-product for obtaining of liquid fuel components. Synthesized catalysts were shown to be promising for further study in LA hydrogenation. 3%-Ru/MN270 was shown to allow achieving about 37% GVL yield for 2 h of reaction time. Magnetically separable 3%-Ru-Fe3O4/MN270 revealed promising magnetic properties, however it was less active in LA hydrogenation.
