Abstract

Pyrotechnic article are means any article containing explosive substances or an explosive mixture of substances designed to produce heat, light, sound, gas or smoke or a combination of such effects through self-sustained exothermic chemical reactions. Of the family of these products are the electric igniters framed according to the intended use in category P1 / P2 - Other pyrotechnic articles. These types of pyrotechnic articles are used to initiate the burning of pyrotechnic components that generate deflagration. An important parameter that highlights the performance of the electric lighter is the initiation time. The initiation time (reaction time) of the pyrotechnic article is the time between initiating the trigger stimulus and appearance a hint of operation (flame) in the test article. To determine this operating parameter of the electric igniter, specific high accuracy equipment should be used. This paper presents a method for measuring the initiation time that can be successfully applied to such determinations.
