WATER QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF WATER BODIES IN THE OB AND YERKUTA RIVER BASINS

Abstract

Zooplankton organisms are widely used as indicators of ecosystem changes (Adrian et al., 2009, Nigamatzyanova G., Frolova L., 2017). Both zooplankton and nutrients play an important role in monitoring and assessing water quality by greatly contributing to biological productivity (Vinberg,1960). In the current study, we examined water quality of different types of water bodies of Ob and Erkuta river basins, based on the analysis of zooplankton communities and the concentration of nutrients. 72 species of zooplankton were identified in the investigated water bodies. The taxonomic diversity consisted of Rotifera species (39 species). Kellicotia longispina (Kellikott, 1879), Conochilus unicornis (Rousselet, 1892), Keratella cochlearis (Gosse, 1851) prevailed by frequency of occurrence. Biotopic distribution showed a predominance of littoral species (55.1%). In relation to zoogeographic zoning, the dominance of cosmopolitan species (56.3%) in the zooplankton community was determined. Anthropogenic impact on the lake in Salekhard city may be an indirect cause of relatively low quantitative indicators of zooplankton compared to the other lakes of studied region. The study showed positive correlation between the amount of zooplankton species and the pH in all of the investigated water bodies as well as high positive correlation between the amount of zooplankton species, water temperature and dissolved oxygen content in the water bodies of the Ob river basin. The concentrations of nutrients are determined. The average water objects phosphates concentration is 0.04 mg/l, silicates concentration ? 0.32 mg/l, nitrates concentration ? 0.004 mg/l, nitrites concentration ? 0.05 mg/l. In general, the quality of water for water bodies in the urban area of Salekhard city is determined by the anthropogenic factor.
