Abstract

Portable Gauss meters or Tesla meters are popular, simple and non-expensive magnetometers, capable of measuring the strength and direction of magnetic field, expressed by magnetic flux density and magnetic vector. Gauss meters work on base of cable connected solenoid gauss probe and registered difference of electric potential (Hall effect). Instruments are able to measure both the intensity and direction of magnetic field, usually being applied in the electronical industry or mechanics. Due to the increasing technological measurement resolution capability, devices may be applied for geophysical near-surface studies, environmental magnetism or micromagnetics. Instruments may be used also for measurement of local magnetic field strength or environmental magnetic ?pollution?. Portable Gauss meter Voltcraft GM-100 was applied for field detection of local magnetic anomalies in the Pieniny Klippen Belt (PKB), Outer Western Carpathians, southern Poland. Magnetic field was tested also in the laboratory, using representative rock samples collected in summer 2017 and 2018. Several sedimentary units of PKB were affected by andesite and basalt intrusions. Some magmatic rocks are found also as a olistoliths in the Carpathian melange zone. Analyzed volcanic rocks show usually much greater magnetic susceptibility, which may be detected as a several magnetic anomalies. Basing on a field measurements of andesite intrusion at the Wdzar Mountain and so-called ?The Basalt Rock? olistolith located nearby Jaworki, Biala Woda reserve, two maps of a local magnetic anomalies were constructed. Presented results may be useful for the local anomalies detection of content of strongly ferromagnetic minerals or identification of buried blocks of volcanic rocks.
