SEDIMENT TRANSPORT MODELING OF MACIOVITA RIVER, ROMANIA, CARAS SEVERIN COUNTY
Abstract
Study case is river Maciovita, Caras Severin County. Sediment transport model is applicated different both in terms of time and space scale, study objectives, required accuracy, allocated resources, background of the study team etc. Sediment transport modelling, have necessity to know all characteristics of the sediment. Therefore, it is recommended to collect a number of bed sediment grap from geological study or from examples. These examples analyzed terms of grain size distribution. To solve theoretical problems of movement of water in the river Maciovita, it requires modeling of water flow in this case. Numerical modeling use software MIKE11. Advanced numerical simulation modules are included for description of flow over or under hydraulic structures, including possibilities to describe mechanical operation. Software MIKE 11 offers options to modelling sediment transport for dynamics and morphological changes. Transport models is used for different types sediments (fine, cohesive, non-cohesive, mixed). Morphological model present dynamic feedback between the hydrodynamics, sediment modeling and bed level changes, the upstream boundary condition is important. The timestep is more important boundary condition. Basically, two types of boundaries conditions can be imposed: Bed levels or sediment transport rates. The former is often applied, if it can be assumed with good approximation, that the bed level remains the same at the upstream boundary. The latter is applied, if specification of sediment transport (null value for transport) can be done accurately.
