THE MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL OF BUILDING VIBRATIONS IN COURSE OF SHEET PILE WALL AND FRANKI PILE DRIVING
Abstract
Determination of the threats arising from the vibrations generated by geotechnical works, like sheet pile or pile driving, often requires special monitoring of buildings located in the area of vibration. Monitoring allows distinguishing the vibrations affecting the structures from vibrations clearly perceptible by humans, but not strongly affecting the building. In some limited cases, dynamic analysis enables for designing an active generator, reducing dynamic impact of foundation works. The article presents the possibility of using special sensors to measure vibration in the performance of pile sheet wall installation. The second case study presents the possibility of technology calibration by means of various drop heights of falling mass during Franki pile driving. The monitoring methodology and sensors usage examples, based on Wroclaw University of Technology experiences for the measurement of vibration in buildings were presented. Data obtained from the measurements and its interpretations based on different standards were also juxtaposed with the recommendations for future works.
