INTEGRATION OF GEOTECHNICAL SOLUTIONS IN THE WASTE MANAGEMENT AT THE DOICESTI THERMOELECTRIC POWER STATION, DAMBOVITA, ROMANIA
Abstract
The legislative framework for the environmental protection in Romania, as a European Union member state, has carried a new approach in the management of the perimeters affected by the industrial activities. At the national level, efforts are made to implement a number of projects (e.g. ISPA [The Instrument for Structural Policies for Preaccession] – Environment) that would lead to a better administration of waste materials associated with these activities (e.g. recycling in the economic circuit or the easy reintegration into the environment), as well as to monitoring the natural and the social environment that is to be found under the incidence of this type of pollution. At present, the district of Dambovita goes over the steps of the process regarding the development of an integrated management system of solid waste in the urban and rural areas of the territory (elaborating the regional waste management plans, elaborating the passive prognosis and the general objectives, including assessing the current situation). The problems of the environmental protection in the influence area of Doicesti TEPS (Thermoelectric Power Station), in the context of a lasting development, are focused on fighting against the inherent phenomena of industrial waste pollution (slag and ashes). The measures related to reducing the impact that these waste types have on the environment, and that constitute the subject of the present article, are centred upon modernizing the storage conditions corroborated with the physical and socio-economic characteristics of the habitat in view of its ecological reconstruction.
