MAPPING OF EROSION COMPLEXES USING MAPS OF STABLE INTRA-FIELD HETEROGENEITY OF SOIL FERTILITY
Abstract
In traditional soil mapping, erosion is mapped as a process. Erosion processes are modeled based on the analysis of large-scale topographic maps and digital elevation models. Traditional mapping of soil erosion suggests a high correlation between topography and erosion processes. In precision farming systems, the actual location of fragments of agricultural fields where there has been a decrease in soil fertility is mapped,. The study compares two approaches. It is shown that the actual development of soil erosion has a more complex spatial arrangement than relief factors. Hypotheses on the equality of the development of soil erosion with equal relief parameters on topographic maps and digital elevation models can be considered not confirmed. This study showed that in about half the cases, actual erosion does not occur at the locations predicted by modeling. It can be assumed that the traditional modeling of the erosion processes is suitable for recommendations on anti-erosion measures. For precision farming task maps, determination of erosion by methods of processing big satellite data are needed.
