FLOOD VULNERABILITY ANALYSIS AND RISK ASSESSMENT FOR VIENNE RIVER
Abstract
Natural hazards as floods are a constant threat to urban areas and for the environment. The need of monitoring and mapping these types of inevitable phenomena has become mandatory cause of their negative impact on natural resources, different social and economic aspects. In L'Ile-Bouchard these phenomenon occurs frequently and people that are living in the flood prone areas of Vienne River are highly vulnerable to flood. The current study is an analysis of the flood hazard map and risk map of a river sector for Vienne River that traverses this commune. The analysis is achieved using InfoWorks ICM and ArcMap software. Necessary data were collected and transferred into the required modelling procedures. The simulations of the flood in the Vienne River were conducted using a 1D-2D linked flow model and involved hydrological modelling and hydraulic modelling. The results indicated that the model is able to simulate the real flood depth thus the flood hazard maps and flood risk maps were developed. These maps will provide important information in proposing a suitable design for mitigation works in this area.
