MULTICRITERIA ANALYSIS OF THE AGGREGATE PRODUCTION BY-PRODUCT PURPOSES
Abstract
Aggregate is one of the essential components of artificial structures. Aggregate is obtained by mining, as is the case with mineral raw materials. The output of aggregate mining is, in addition to the main product, also a secondary one - sludge. Sludge is an integral part of the wet processing of the most minor aggregate fractions. The amount of sludge in quarries is increasing, while the task of sludge management is to find a purpose for it and thus utilize it. Sludge management methods must consider the most negligible possible burden on the environment and the use of mining areas. Sludge pressings may be a way to reuse waste material. The properties of sludge pressings indicate the possibilities of their inclusion in the processes of various branches of industry. The multicriteria analysis also focuses on the economic side of their potential purposes because their price as a commodity created from waste is low on the market. The goal is to find a variant that will benefit the potential customer but, at the same time, will not worsen the economic situation of the quarry that will supply the sludge pressings. Among the analysis criteria, logistic criteria must be included, considering the costs of the preparation, storage, handling, and transportation of sludge pressings.
