THE IMPACT OF PLASMA TREATMENT OVER WHEAT SEEDS
Abstract
The wheat is one of the most important crop in the world, the area cultivated exceeding 200mil ha. One provocation for researchers is represented by the question "In the conditions of continued growth of world population, how can to improve the wheat yield in the condition of maintain or decreasing the cultivated area". The answer can be offered by the seed treatment with cold plasma. This paper contains the results of research regarding the using of cold plasma for wheat seed treatment. The research was performed in a monofactorial experiment, with 6 variants: untreated and 5 time of treatment with cold plasma: 5min, 10min, 15 min, 30min, 45min. The seed treatment was done in a coaxial cold plasma reactor, the sinusoidal voltage with 18 kV amplitude and 50 Hz frequency applied to the inner electrode. After treatments the seed was placed in a rizotron, to monitor the impact of tratment over the seed growing in early stage. The results show: the plasma seed treatment improved the germination rate, the speed of germination, and speed of growing in the early stage, while the increasing rate is proportional with time of treatment. Over 30min treatment time all the growing properties decreased under untreated.
