POSSIBILITIES FOR INCREASING BLUEBERRY YIELDS WITHOUT USING NUTRITION AND FERTILIZATION SYSTEMS
Abstract
The health of soil, groundwater, air and the entire environment of inhabited areas depends largely on the intensity of agriculture and its systems. In order to achieve the desired quantity, quality and economic profitability, it is necessary to apply large amounts of unnatural, often chemical substances in the production process in order to achieve the desired and profitable harvests. These are mainly industrial fertilizers, which, when used for a long time, can contaminate all components of the environment. Although they contribute to soil fertility, on the other hand, they can damage environmental components. Biostimulants, which function on the principle of stimulating the internal mechanisms of plants, encouraging important synthetic processes in cells, which result in enhanced growth and crop formation, appear to be a suitable alternative. The main idea of this study was to investigate and evaluate the influence of the used biostimulants on various quantitative and qualitative characteristics of fruits. The implementation was carried out in the plantation in the Botanical Garden of SPU in Nitra. The varieties monitored include Duke, Huron, Draper, Bluecrop, Calypso and Liberty. 20 plants of each variety were planted, we applied biostimulants to 10 and the remaining 10 served as a control. The biostimulants used were Agriful, Tecamin Max and Tecamin Brix. Based on the measured values, it can be stated that the biostimulants had the greatest effect on the Huron variety in the case of quantitative parameters. For qualitative parameters, the Bluecrop variety was the best evaluated, achieving the highest values for pH, total sugars and refractometric dry matter in the treated samples. The treated variants generally showed a slight decrease in average values compared to the control, however, some varieties, such as Liberty, achieved the best results in total acids or malic acid. Overall, it can be observed that the biostimulants brought positive effects in some parameters, but in others there were no statistically significant differences between the control and treated samples.
