THE STUDENTS’ PERCEPTIONS ABOUT CONFLICT AND CONFLICT MANAGEMENT

Abstract

The main goal of this research is to determine the attitudes of high school students and higher education school students in terms of conflict, the types of conflicts they encountered and conflict management styles they applied. For this research, Rahim Organizational Conflict Inventory was used to identified the students’ perceptions regarding conflict and conflict management styles. The sample data for this research is 372 School of Vocational Studies students in Istanbul. Thus, this research aimed at exploring the relationship between academic achievement (effective learning) and emotional intelligence skills. In the research, participants emotional intelligence was assessed by the Emotional Competence Inventory (ECI, 2nd Version) developed by Boyatzis and Goleman. According to the results, a strong relationship (r>0,40) was found between academic achievement and emotional intelligence skills. The SPSS statistical program was used to analysis students’ data by using statistical techniques. It is concluded that there is a correlation between conflicts perceive and conflict management style. Moreover, the perceptions of students attending high school differ from the perceptions of students attending higher education institutions.
