Abstract

The article reviews and analyzes the existing computer systems and platforms for the dynamic monitoring of bee hives, through which various states of bee colonies can be detected and analyzed. Contemporary solutions are based on the Internet of Things (IoT) concept and consist of a number of different sensors that collect several types of data about the internal condition of the hive. The article proposes a new model of IoT-based monitoring system, which consists of sensors being located inside and outside of bee hives - powered by a solar panel. This system combines all the benefits of current monitoring systems, and builds on them, by adding additional functionality and the use of intelligent sensors пїЅ helping to collect real-time and useful data. The collected data is sent for processing and analysis in Cloud environments and then visualized in a specially built user-friendly software platform. The data is visualized on a dashboard where charts and diagrams clearly indicate and show the real-time data levels and the permissible levels of various attributes. Upon reaching the predefined optimal levels of received data, a notification is triggered and the beekeeper automatically receives a message about any abnormality. The collected data will provide the opportunity to make scientific conclusions and in the long term, through data-mining, will help to create different behavioral models that will support the sustainable development of this sector. The built-in system for the analysis and visualization of the data will make management of large bee farms easy and efficient. This will lead to a reduction in the costs involved with the maintenance and monitoring of the activities associated with bee-keeping. The system will facilitate the decision-making process during the bee-keeping phase and will increase the efficiency of honey production.
