Abstract

Mining industry is still the only supplier of mineral resources, both metals, coal and other useful mineral substances. Transportation represents an integral part of the logistics system in each mining company. The most frequently used mineral transportation system is the truck transport. Loading and transportation is important part in the extraction and processing of minerals. The selection of loading and transport means affects the efficiency and performance of the whole operation. A choice of an appropriate loading and transportation means depends on several factors. The selection of loading and transport means for open pit operation on the basis of multi-criteria decision is the aim of this paper. The selection was carried out on the basis of selected criteria for different alternatives of the transport system (e.g. loading capacity, truck capacity, number of trucks,?). There was used two methods of the multi-criteria decision to evaluate types of variants: Pairwise comparison method and Saaty`s method.
