Abstract

There is a strong interdependence between natural ecosystems and human health. The imbalances created within natural ecosystems as a result of climate change have left their mark on human habitats. Understanding the importance of the relationship between biodiversity - natural ecosystems - human health could lead to solving some of the problems planet Earth is facing at the beginning of the 21st century. Global political strategies should encompass more ideas of including natural ecosystems in the design of general urban plans and in the protection of human communities, all of which have multiple benefits on human health. The present study aims to highlight how the population perceives the changes underwent by the natural ecosystems and the observed/potential connections between the natural environment, the ecosystem services and the human health.
