Abstract

When conducting studies related to the study of the radon hazard of premises and territories, conducting radon monitoring measurements with the aim of predicting mountain impacts and earthquakes, studying the emanation characteristics of rocks and a number of other problems, it has been shown that in some cases the materials of the connecting elements used in measuring structures On the results. In this connection, experimental studies were carried out aimed at studying the sorption abilities of the material of the connecting elements with respect to radon-222. A laboratory facility was created that allows measurements in a circulating mode, with the help of which the dependence of radon volume activity on the sorption characteristics of various materials of connecting elements (rubber, polyethylene, silicone, metal) was investigated. The dependence of the sorption capacity of silicone hoses on the inner surface area was also investigated. The obtained results showed that the error in measuring the volume activity of radon using polyethylene, rubber and metal connecting elements does not exceed 10%, while the silicone hoses give a much larger error. Thus, carrying out experimental studies on the sorption capacity of the connecting elements, has shown a significant effect on the measured value of the volumetric radon activity of sorption effects on the surfaces of the connecting elements
