The geopolymer, developed by dr hab. inż. Janusz Mikuła and mgr inż. Michał Lach of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Kraków University of Technology, a geopolymeric compound (so called artificial stone) that can be used in construction, historical monuments conservation, producing corrosion resistant piping and in the automotive and aircraft industry. The production of the geopolymer used volcanic tuff found in the vi cinity of Kraków http://www.pk.edu.pl/
Kraków is currently listed as the third most polluted city in Europe in terms of air pollution in a ranking developed by the European Environment Protection Agency.

The technology of building Earthship type houses was developed by Mike Reynolds in the 1970's. The first houses of this type were erected in New Mexico, USA, a place which currently has the most houses of this type in the world.
