EXPERIMENTAL COMPARISON OF THE FIRE EXTINGUISHING PROPERTIES OF THE FIRESORB- GEL AND WATER
Abstract
In 2008, a new polymer substance FIRESORBпїЅ, used both as a fire extinguishing agent as well as a fire retardant, especially at wildland fires, was placed on the Slovak market. FIRESORBпїЅ gel, in general, due to its high density affects burning materials by even uniform cooling effect, reducing the rate of evaporation. This cooling effect is a dominant one at fires with origin of very high temperatures, where applying water streams would be ineffective due to near immediately water evaporation. The paper is dealing with the issue of testing the extinguishing efficiency of the FIRESORBпїЅ polymer substance to protect the flammable materials against fire. The wooden crib was used to realize the test. The test was carried out in the area of the Rescue brigade of the Fire and Rescue Service in Malacky, Slovakia. Testing results were also compared with results of experimental fire extinguishing with fractionalized water stream under the same conditions. The test was carried out as a modified fire extinguishing test of the Class A fire model.
