Abstract

The treatment of natural rock, as well as construction aggregates and ornamental rock creates a great amount of residues, which are usually grain sized under 100 $\mu$m and with chemical and mineralogical composition modified due to processing. Therefore these materials have a composition with a variable content of rock, accompanied with other components as iron particles, clayey materials, flocculants, etc. These contaminants limit the application of those wastes. It is necessary therefore, the search of a process which would allow us to treat these materials with the aim of obtaining a product which has a potential application and thus a potential outlet, giving value to a problematic waste and obtaining a economic byproduct. Giving that the products which they come from have in general a low added value, the final product obtained will have a low value too, so the treatment process of this kind of waste must be feasible and clean, for the waste itself (no energetic, non metallic) is usually inert. The mineral processing methods offer an effective technology which can make economically viable the treatment of this type of wastes. In the current work has been studied the residues arriving from the production of aggregates [1, 2, 3]. They were characterized and processed removing the clayey component to obtain the cleanest quartz fraction. In this way also was studied its potential application in the cement and ceramic industry [4, 5], in the mixtures of concrete mortars and to obtain pelletizing products.
