Abstract

The history of the welded steel structures in Romania and in the world is the starting point for the construction of mega-steel structures for nowadays. In order to understand the way of the welded steel structures is achieved, we need to know the history of the welded steel structures in each country and especially in our country. The paper will present the history of the welded steel structures in Romania from viaducts, steel bridges or even mega steel structures from the early 1900s. Also, the paper will present some historical welded steel structures that are still in operation, including their technical state and the interventions that have taken place over the respective steel structures. There will be also presented some of the welded steel structures made by the great academician Dan Mateescu and other great Romanian civil engineering. The historically welded structures in the early 1900s were hardly achieved because to the very difficult welding infrastructure then, but nowadays the field of welding has grown so much and the welding is very common on each site construction. Only a few standing witnesses of the history of riveted bridges and historical welded structures still exist in Romania.
