ATTRACTION OF INVESTMENT TO DEGRADED TERRITORY REVITALISATION FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IN LATVIA

Abstract

Nowadays, more and more society are thinking about environmental issues, such as global climate change, environmental pollution, degraded, abandoned territories and their revitalization. Degraded areas are found in the whole world, so the importance of this issue cannot be measured only within the national level, but on a global scale. Revitalization of brownfields is a time-consuming and financially expensive. Therefore, the aim of the research is to analyse investment attraction possibilities for revitalization of brownfields for business development. The research methodology used for this study includes an analysis of theoretical concepts and factors affecting brownfields. To achieve the set goals, the study was structured in several parts and carried out at different stages. The study was carried out in five regions of Latvia, which includes more than one hundred municipalities, especially analysing the possibilities of revitalization of brownfields in the urban environment, facilitating promote business development, and the economic growth of the region. The purpose of this article is to analyse and compare the research data according to the results of the EU funding for the specific support objectives for 2014-2020 No 5.6.2 ?Revitalisation of territories through regeneration of degraded territories according to the integrated development programmes of local governments? offered by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development achieved in the context of territorial development and to increase private investments in business development according to the economic specialization of territories defined in local government development programs and based on local entrepreneurs needs.
