Abstract

The results of the geological and mineralogo-technological studies of ultramafic rocks of pyroxene composition as a non-conventional high-Mg mineral raw material, exemplified by various Karelia?s deposits, such as Aganozero chromium ore, Buntin Hill dimension stone and Gaikolya base-mineral ores, are reported. High-Mg ultramafic rocks, such as olivinite, olivinite, dunite, peridotite and serpentinite, are of interest as mineral products on the world market. Pyroxenites are not used now practically in industry, but their theoretical studies have been conducted and possible applications have been discussed in the literature and patents. . The results of technological studies suggest that Aganozero pyroxenites contribute to the formation of a crystalline augite phase. Therefore, it is worth using them as part of low-shrinkage ceramics. Gaikolya and Buntin Hill pyroxenites form a crystalline forsterite phase upon roasting. Therefore, they could be used as part of highly durable forsteritic ceramics and highly durable moisture-resistant refractories with a low thermal conductivity coefficient. The effect of the mineral composition of pyroxenites on the technological properties of building facing materials upon low-temperature roasting was assessed.
