Abstract

In the paper, it is proposed to perform a comparative analysis of the strength and stability calculations for the VST-20000 stationary roof by using two methods. The first method would be the one of structural mechanics described in [1, 2], and the second one is a numerical method performed in the ANSYS software complex. The finite element model of the VST-20000 roof was used to calculate the stationary roof of the tank in ANSYS, which implements the finite element method. The tank computer model represents the system of metal structures, comprising radial beams, reinforcing ring, sheet decking and gripper-arm interface of the base setting ring with the shell. Aiming to provide the real working conditions for the base setting ring, a 12-meter-high shell was included in the model. The radial beams, the reinforcing ring elements and the shell section were rigidly interconnected. Boundary conditions: the bottom edge of the tank shell is rigidly restrained to prevent movements and turns around the perimeter. The comparative analysis of the checking calculations showed that difference between values obtained from the calculation by the structural mechanics method and those obtained after numerical calculation in ANSYS did not exceed 7%. This indicates the adequacy of the finite-element model of the VST roof and the reliability of the results of the numerical calculation method.
