EVALUATION OF ENTIRE VOLUME OF RESULTED EMISSIONS FROM THE HARBOURS ACTIVITIES IN THE BLACK SEA

Abstract

In the international context of air pollution, the issue of air emissions is treated with various measure in different geographical areas in the world. Due to this necessity, international stakeholders were taking sets of regulations to reduce the effects of air emissions resulted from shipping activities. In Black Sea, because of geopolitical context, such measures have not yet been taken into account. The Black Sea area represents an important pole in the Eastern European trade and is reflected in the transit of hydrocarbons, bulk cargo, containerized cargo, all of which are in a development trend. This increase leading to the development of the port activities, an aspect that influences the air quality in the coastal area. In the Black Sea region, we find many ports established in natural bays, where important urban settlements have developed since ancient times, but we can remember that the most important are the following: Burgas, Varna, Constanta, Odessa, Sevastopol, Novosibirsk, Samsun, Trabzon, Batumi, Poti. The impact on the population adjacent to these types of industrial activities can be major due to the proximity between the two, in the case of most of the mentioned ports. From the perspective of reducing the influence that the shipping industry constitutes, it is recommended to approach such an evaluation in order to establish the next steps of action for limiting the air pollution. In this regard, an estimated method will be used, which will evaluate the volume of global compounds resulting in 9 spots, related to each location by a comparison with the port of Constanta.
