MODULUS OF ELASTICITY OF HIGH STRENGTH CONCRETE
Abstract
Development of high strength concrete has been continuous over the years, its production becoming available at competitive prices to the construction industry, thus moving away from being a novelty product. Although high-strength concrete properties have been widely studied for nearly 100 years, currently available design standards for concrete structures contain stipulations based on research conducted on concrete with lower grades than those available today. The modulus of elasticity is a very important mechanical property of concrete and therefore is a key factor for estimating the deformation of structural elements and very important for structures that require strict control of their deformability. International codes propose a large variety of formulas to establish the relationship between modulus of elasticity and compressive strength. A research program has been carried out to establish the experimental values of modulus of elasticity according to Romanian Standard (STAS 5585), but also according to European Standard (EN 12390-13). Five classes of concrete were studied: C40, C60, C70, C80 and C90. Values obtained experimentally were compared with those obtained by calculation, taking into account the value of compressive strength. The influence of age on the modulus of elasticity is also discussed.
