RAILWAY TRANSPORT IN REGIONAL AND LOCAL DEVELOPMENT OF THE RURAL AREAS - CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES
Abstract
The funds for disbursement of unused amounts must be required by the need for population mobility to provide a rich set of spatial solutions for separate regions living in the country. This determines the size of this type of transport in its domestic, labor, educational and other daily routine. Against the backdrop of global improvements in the handling of goods transport from all countries, there is a downward trend both for the passengers and freight forwarders. This applies to the degree of retention of areas that are the most serious demographic, social and economic negatives in the last three decades. The role of this type of transport in the accessibility of the peripheral - rural, mountainous, border and other types of informal regions in Bulgaria is not only an important factor in their regional and local development but a vital instrument (sometimes the only one) for the implementation of the basic public transport services. In the state of their modern organization, there are a number of challenges that require adequate time and space management decisions. Their realization will create favorable conditions for the effective use of all the opportunities that this type of transport has and will increase the investment interest in a number of rural territories with insufficient utilization or even untapped potential. The variety of identified research problems has prompted a constant interest in our country, which continues beyond the present study through the implementation of larger projects.
