IMPACT OF ISOPERIBOL HEATING ON FIRE RESISTANCE OF ELECTRICAL CABLES USING SAFETY CALORIMETER SEDEX

Abstract

In the fire statistics, electrical appliances are one of the main sources of fire. In such fires, the first ignited component is the insulation around wires and cables. The aim of this paper is to determine the impact of isoperibolic heating (in the range of 200 ? 400 В°C and with a heat gradient of 10 K in 10 min) on fire resistance of electrical cable (which was modified by a fire-retardant) using a safety calorimeter SEDEX. The individual insulation layers of the sample were pre-ground and each layer was subsequently tested by the temperature program in the experimental device. All layers of insulating material were recorded to overcome an endothermic decomposition throughout the test which means that the samples are thermally stable in the tested range. The maximum endothermic peak was recorded at approximately 300 minutes and 300 В° C. In order to better understand this issue, it is important to continue this research and to manipulate in more detail the variable parameters of the experiment.
