THE PRACTICE OF CSR IN POLAND IN THE REALM OF ENVIRONMENT ACTION
Abstract
Purpose of the article: The present paper is part of a wider study undertaken by the author on aspects of CSR in modern companies, e.g. Hys [9], [10] reports a study of employee practices. The aim of this article is to review and analyze the activities undertaken by enterprises in Poland in the frame of corporate social responsibility (CSR), with a special focus on the environment. Research background: The CSR concept is a challenge for modern companies. Policy makers take action to identify operational factors which enable a more effective implementation of CSR into company structures: Within CSR we can enumerate activities such as organizational governance, human rights, labor practices, environment, fair operating practices, consumer issues, community involvement and development. In this work the focus is on the activities carried out by employees of companies in Poland in the area of environment under CSR. Methodology/methods: Data analysis presented in the article was carried out using secondary research. Preparation and analysis of data as well as drawing conclusions were carried out based on the desk research method. The data was obtained while analyzing source materials such as: numerous analyst reports and compilation of statistical data, publicly available reports of companies and research institutions. Data concerning examined issue were collected in relation to environment activities carried out in the period of 2005-2015 among the companies operating in Poland. Findings and Value added: Conclusions encompass remarks on observed relationships and tendencies in the realm of actions that companies undertake for the environment in the context of CSR in Poland. The added value of this work is author's diagnosis and analysis of the criteria in the environmental aspect of CSR over the years and an attempt to classify these criteria in homogeneous groups. This analysis is the response to previously identified research gaps in this area.
