  2. The notion refers to the space of the Republic of Serbia today; the countries bordering the RS: Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia.

  3. Socialist Federative Republic of Yugoslavia was disassociated in 1992 through the separation of Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, and eventually in 2006 by the separation of Montenegro.

  4. The same word used in the Serbia n language for the temple edifice “church” when written with the capital letter first “Church” means the community of all Christians.

  5. Great Župan Stefan Nemanja – the founder of the Serbian Medieval state in 12th century, prominent endower and restorer of churches who abandoned his throne in order to receive a monastic rank on the Mount Athos.

  6. The names of the styles in the Serbian c hurch architecture were created after the areas in which the churches were built, Raška school – in the area of Raška and Morava school – in the basin of the Morava river.

  8. The Repu blic of Serbia has 4 cultural sites inscribed : 3 refer predominantly to monasteries: Stari Ras and Sopoć ani, inscribed in 1979 – Mediaeval Town of Ras , Sopoćani Monastery, The Holy Apostles St Peter and St Paul Church, Djurdjevi Stupovi Monastery; Studenica Monastery, inscribed in 1986 – Studenica Monastery; Medieval Monuments in Kosovo, inscribed in 2004/2006 – Dečani Monastery, Patriarchate of Pec Monastery, Gračanica Monastery, Church of the Virgin of Ljeviša; within the mixed site Mount Athos , inscribe d in 1988 under Greece, there is also the Serbian Monastery Chilandar.

  9. The monks live in Monastic community and t he built structure where they live is also called Monastery.

  10. Seven Ecumenical Councils held in the period 325-787 A.D.

  11. Ten Local Councils held in the period 314-880 A.D.
